This guide will walk you through the process of creating "equivalencies" within your tracks in PlusPlus. Equivalencies allow you to offer multiple content items, where completing any one of them fulfills the requirement for that part of the track.

What is an Equivalency?

An equivalency is a container that holds two or more content items within a track. When an end-user engages with the track, they only need to complete one of the items within the equivalency container to mark that section as complete. This is useful for offering choice, different learning styles, or various formats for the same learning objective.

Important Note: Equivalencies only exist within tracks. You cannot create a standalone equivalent content item outside of a track. Also, Collections cannot be inside equivalencies due to not being assignable.

Adding Equivalencies in Specific Sections

If your track has multiple sections, you must navigate into the specific section where you want the equivalency to reside before clicking "Add Equivalency." You cannot add an equivalency directly at the top level and then move it into a section.

How to Create an Equivalency

Step by step:

  1. Navigate to Your Track:

    • Go to the specific track where you want to add an equivalency.

    • Click on Edit if it's an existing track, or start creating a new one.

    • Ensure you are in the Details and Content section of the track.

  2. Add Equivalency:

    • Within the "Content" area of your track, locate the menu (often represented by a + sign or similar icon for adding content.

    • Click on "Add Equivalency."

    • Do not click "Add Content Item" if your goal is to create an equivalency. You are adding the container first.

  3. Select Equivalent Content Items:

    • After adding the equivalency container, you will be prompted to find and select the content items you wish to include.

    • You can select various types of content, such as event series, articles, videos, etc.

    • Click "Add" to include them in the equivalency.

  4. Manage Equivalent Items:

    • Once added, you will see your equivalent container with the selected items listed within it.

    • You can reorder these items as needed.

    • You can include more than two items; the rule remains "complete one of however many you have in here."

  5. Edit Equivalency Message (Optional):

    • Click on the "Edit" option within the equivalency container to customize the message that users will see.

    • Enter your desired message (e.g., "Complete one of these options:") and click "Save."

  6. Finalize and Publish:

    • The equivalency, with its content items, is now part of your track and ready for end-users to engage with.

    • Remember to save and publish your track for the changes to take effect.
