Learn how to make a track item inline so it's visible only in the track, not in the Catalog.

Scenario

As an admin or content owner, you want to make a track item inline (only visible in the track) because it's not applicable or useful outside the track. You also don't want the content to be generally available to team members or to add clutter to the Catalog.

Please note that at this time events cannot be marked as an inline item even if the event type is set as inline. We plan to add this option for events in the future.

Solution

  1. Go to the track with content items you want to make inline.

  2. Open the context menu (button with three dots) and select Edit.

  3. Open Track Items and open the context menu for the content you want to make inline.

  4. Select Set as inline.

  5. Save your changes.

Alternative process

You can also set content as inline when creating or editing it. Turn on the Inline item option on the Edit or Create page for the content item. Once turned on, the content no longer appears in the Catalog but can still be added to a track.

Inline versus standalone content

Content that isn't inline is considered standalone, meaning it's not dependent on a track for visibility but is accessible on its own in the Catalog. Track items indicate whether they are inline or standalone.

Hiding content versus inline track items

You can hide content so that it's not visible in the Catalog except for people with elevated access (admins and site owners). You can add hidden content as a track item so that regular users can consume it only in the track, but inline track items are a better solution for this because, unlike hidden content, they don't appear in the Catalog for those with elevated access, cluttering up their Catalog with content that may not apply to them. We recommend hiding content when:

  • You’re in the process of building it and don’t want it available to the whole org yet.

  • You want to share a one-off content item via a URL so only a few select people can engage it.
