As an admin or content owner, you want to make certain track steps optional so that people can complete the track as a whole without completing the optional content. 

Go to the track with content items you want to make optional.

Open the context menu (button with three dots) and select Edit.

Open Track Items and open the context menu for the content you want to make optional.

1. Go to the track with content items you want to make optional.
2. Open the context menu (button with three dots) and select Edit.
3. Open Track Items and open the context menu for the content you want to make optional.
 
 
4. Select Set as optional.
5. Save your changes.

Note that optional content is displayed by the dotted border.
