Learn how to connect PlusPlus to your organization’s Slack team, enabling your people to receive notifications from our system

Scenario

Your org uses Slack and your PlusPlus users like the option of receiving important reminders via Slack instead of (or in addition to) email, and/or automatically joining their teammates in Slack channels around learning topics.

As an admin, you want to enable PlusPlus integration with Slack.

Solution

Turn on the Slack integration, following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Slack and click Connect.
    ​

    This submits the app to your Slack team’s admin for approval.
    ​

  2. Follow up with your Slack admin to approve the PlusPlus app via Slack's Settings & administration > Manage apps page.
    You can also ask your admin to go to https://[your workspace name].slack.com/apps/manage.

  3. After approval, return to Settings > Integrations > Slack and click Connect again.

  4. On the page that opens, approve the install.

  5. Back at Settings > Integrations > Slack, turn on Allow PlusPlus to send Slack notifications.

  6. Save your changes.

Your team is set up to receive notifications via Slack!

Should you want to turn off notifications for all of your people, uncheck the “Allows PlusPlus to send Slack notifications” box at Settings ⇒ Integrations.

For our Slack integration to work, we need to be authorized in the following permission scopes:

To see what data these permissions let PlusPlus access:

  1. Go to the PlusPlus Slack app page.

  2. Click Permissions.

  3. Expand the individual permissions.

Customize Slack notifications

You can enable/disable Slack direct messages for individual notifications, and you can change the notification template to make it your own. See How to customize notifications for more.

Change your bot’s name

By default, our bot will appear in your channel under the name “PlusPlus.” If you want to change its name on your Slack team:

  1. Navigate to https://[your workspace name].slack.com/apps/manage.

  2. Select PlusPlus from the list on installed apps.

  3. Scroll to the Bot User section and click on the edit (pencil) button.

  4. Edit the bot name in the field and Save Changes to implement the new name.

Note that this change appears for all users on your team, not just the individual who changed the name.

Turn off Slack notifications just for one user

  1. Go to the user's profile and click Edit.

  2. Go to Notification Preferences and turn off Receive Slack notifications.

  3. Save the profile.
