Problem

Your company uses Slack and your employees like the option of receiving important reminders via Slack, rather than email. You want to know how to make this possible with PlusPlus.

Solution

Turn on Slack integration.

If you’re a PlusPlus admin, you can connect your team’s channel:

  1. Go to Settings ⇒ Integrations, and scroll to the “Slack” section at the bottom of the page.

  2. Click the “Set up Slack” button, which initially submits the app for approval by your Slack team’s admins (they may be notified within Slack, but we recommend you follow up with them).

  3. Follow up with your Slack admin to approve the PlusPlus app via the Slack's Settings & administrationManage apps. If unsure, ask your admin to point their browser to https://[your workspace name].slack.com/apps/manage.

  4. Once the app is approved, return to Settings⇒ Integration, click the “Set up Slack” button again, and approve the install on the next page.

  5. Check the “Allows PlusPlus to send Slack notifications” box, and then click “Save Changes” to finalize the process.

Now your people will receive notices via our Slackbot – it’s that easy!

Should you want to turn off notifications for all of your people, uncheck the “Allows PlusPlus to send Slack notifications” box at Settings ⇒ Integrations.

Permissions and Data

For our Slack Integration to work we need to be authorized in the following permission scopes:

To see what these permissions let us do (e.g. which data we are able to access), please go to:

  1. Go to the PlusPlus Slack app page

  2. Click on the Permissions tab

  3. Expand the individual permissions

Customize notifications.

You can toggle individual notifications, or write your own custom message.

  1. Go to Settings ⇒ Notification Templates, find the notification you wish to change, and click the “Edit” button.

  2. From there, you may check the box marked “Is Slack Active?” to toggle the message, or change the text in the “Slack Message” field.

  3. Click “Save” to enact your new settings.

Change your bot’s name.

By default, our bot will appear in your channel under the name “PlusPlus.” If you wish to change its name on your Slack team:

  1. Navigate to https://[your workspace name].slack.com/apps/manage.

  2. Select “PlusPlus” from the list on installed apps.

  3. Scroll to the “Bot User” section, and click on the pencil icon

  4. Edit the bot name in the field, and click “Save Changes” to implement the new name.

Please note that this change will appear for all users on your team, not just the individual who changed the name.

Deactivate notifications just for one user

It’s possible for a user to disable slack notifications on their profile. To do that You have to click on the User’s context menu and click on My Profile and click the Edit Button.

On your profile edit page find the Account section and uncheck Receive Slack notifications.
